Welcome to MedLab Insights – Where Diagnostics meets the Future

Behind every diagnosis, treatment plan or life saving intervention is a process that begins in two powerful and often overlooked pillars of healthcare: the medical laboratory and the radiology labs.

Together, medical laboratories and radiology labs form the diagnostic backbone of modern medicine. Whether it’s identifying infections through blood cultures, monitoring chronic diseases via biochemistry panel or detecting tumours through imaging- these services are responsible for over 70% of clinical decisions.

In today’s healthcare system, diagnostics hold the power to save lives but too often, they are slowed down by outdated systems, fragmented processes and a widening gap between innovation and implementation. Despite revolutionary advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), data science, digital infrastructure, many laboratories still rely on legacy technologies, paper based tracking and soiled information systems.

The result?

Delayed diagnoses, medical error and longer hospital stays – all of which undermine the very purpose of healthcare: timely and accurate patient care.

And yet, we live in an era where AI can predict cancer risks from a blood smear, machine learning models can forecast disease progression and cybersecurity solutions can safeguard digital pathology workflows from ransomware attacks. So why does this gap still exist between cutting edge technologies and diagnostic frontline?

This blog was born to answer that question and begin solving it.

MEET THE FOUNDER: AKANKSHA SAINI

Behind MedLab Insights is a medical laboratory scientist with both feet planted in clinical diagnostics and eyes firmly fixed on the future.

My name is Akanksha Saini, and I’m the founder and voice behind this platform.

Like many in the healthcare field, my journey didn’t begin in a position of authority- it began at the ground level. I started my career as a pre-analytical technician trainee, learning first hand the critical importance of every specimen, every barcode and every timely result. From there, I progressed into a registered medical laboratory scientist, working across multiple departments in some of New Zealand’s leading diagnostic laboratories.

Over the past four years, I have built a deep, practical experience in biochemistry and haematology, contributing to frontline diagnostic services that impact thousands of lives every day. Alongside that hands on experience, I’m currently completing my Master’s of medical laboratory science degree, with a focus on quality assurance, leadership and management and innovation.

But science is evolving- and so is the role of the laboratories.

That’s why I have taken a deliberate step beyond the microscope, into the world of data science, AI, automation and cybersecurity. I hold certifications in data science, AI and cybersecurity and I’m passionate about applying these technologies to transform the diagnostic process from the inside out.

My goal is simple:

To help reimagine what diagnostics can look like when powered by the right tools, the right training and the right mindset.
